Interweave
In
1988, the UUA Board of Trustees formed the Common Vision Planning Committee
to create a program for congregations interested in becoming more inclusive.
No set of guidelines can address the diverse needs of the wide range
of Unitarian Universalist congregations, but the following Commitments
to inclusiveness and Actions for achieving those Commitments were adopted
by the delegates of the 1989 General Assembly as the outline for The
Welcoming Congregation Program.
Following a lengthy
series of workshops, at the annual congregation meeting in June of 2002,
the congregation voted unanimously to request official Welcoming Congregation
status.
Following this, a core group of individuals formed a chapter of Interweave.
Interweave is a Unitarian Universalist affiliate organization open to
all interested persons. It has chapters in many Unitarian Universalist
congregations and in districts throughout the United States and Canada.
Its two primary goals are the creation of local groups for gay, lesbian,
and bisexual Unitarian Universalists for support, socializing, and sharing
of life issues, and outreach to the larger gay, lesbian, and bisexual
communities to publicize the religious alternative offered by Unitarian
Universalism.
The local Interweave chapter
holds a monthly potluck and sponsors a number of other events and activities. Contact the Fellowship office for meeting details.
