Religious Education at UUFF

Curriculum 2007 - 2008

Nursery - Infants to Age 3 (downstairs)
Iris Sheperd, Nursery Coordinator
Babies and toddlers are kept busy with toys, stories, snacks, and loving care. The Nursery is age specific and we request that older children not be dropped off at the Nursery, but be encouraged to join the class for their age group or accompany their family upstairs in the sanctuary.

Preschool/Kindergarten - ages 4-5 (Downstairs)
"We are Many, We are One" Offers young children the opportunity to learn about their religious community and tradition, as well as the freedom to discover and express their uniqueness. Children use their minds, bodies, and emotions to develop their senses of identity and self-esteem within their UU community and their world.

Elementary - Grades 1-2-3 (Downstairs)
"Special Times". This year-long program explores the richness of our Jewish and Christian heritages by celebrating holidays and other special times we set apart for worship and ceremony. D Packed with arts and crafts, stories and songs, and a variety of group activities, children's religious education and faith development are enhanced as they become aware of the connection between Unitarian Universalism and the Jewish and Christian traditions.

Elementary - Grades 4-5-6 (Downstairs)
"In Our Hands". This program engages participants in experiences to promote peace and justice within themselves, with others, and with our planet earth. Children will explore their own knowing, feeling, and imagining about issues of peace and justice. Additionally they will learn concepts that help to promote peace and justice and creative conflict resolution.

Junior High Level - Grades 7-8-9 (Annex)
"You the Creator". The basic message of "You the Creator" is expressed in its title: you, the participant, are, can be, and should be one of the creative forces in the world. It helps all participants to discover themselves as universal creative forces.

Senior High Level - Grades 10-11-12 (annex)
"In Our Hands". This class will focus on the development of projects to be planned, implemented and documented by participants. Youth will work with mentors in developing these service projects. Additionally, social fun gatherings that include movies, music, etc. will be a vital part of this community of youth.
